Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day Friends!

We love Earth Day here at Shea Woods Co., a specific date to celebrate our environment and the beauty of earth. People coming out in masses to celebrate our home we call earth. Each year, people come together to clean parks, highways, waterways, to recycle and more. AND, to add to the special day, 2020 is the 50th Earth Day Anniversary! We thought it would be a great opportunity to share with our loyal friends and customers how Shea Woods Co. has created sustainable and eco-friendly products!

Why we care so much!

Michigan, our beautiful state, the great lakes state, known for being surrounded by lakes so massive and clean that it just takes your breath away. It is our home! The state of Michigan was formed by the receding of glaciers. Glacial sediment and the carving of landscapes formed this beautiful area and the proof is everywhere you look!

Our Amber Falls scent was named after one of our favorite Michigan spots, Tahquamenon falls; a falls whose color is created from the tannins that leach from cedar swamps at the start of the river. Our Quiet Canoe scent was created because one of our favorite past times is being on a canoe in a quiet river, taking in the beauty and smells of the environment all around us. Backcountry Pine and Campfire on the Rocks, both scents that place us outside in places we absolutely love. In the country, in the woods, down a back road, in the water; each created from the beauty of our earth!

Let’s get started!!

1. Re-usable containers are an absolute must-have for creating our candles and hand sanitizers. Our glass is wide mouthed and heavy on the bottom, perfect for holding heavier objects and sturdy in it's design. The glass containers make excellent bathroom accessories to hold things like Q-Tips and cotton balls. Another great idea is using these to store pencils and pens at your desk! The options are endless. Once fully burned down, pour the little remaining wax out and use your favorite dish soap to thoroughly clean the container. The wick tab may be popped off very simply with a butter knife!

2. Re-using shipping materials, this was a no-brainer for us, really! Why would we throw away all the great packaging materials that came with our supplies? We already know that these materials efficiently protect glass in transit and keep our wicks and fragrance oils nice and cozy, so why not use them again! We do this, not only with our product packaging, but also with larger boxes for wholesale orders. Our company prides itself on being eco-conscious and responsibly using sustainable ingredients and resources!

3. Sustainable ingredients were a given when this company was still a tiny thought in our minds. With our deep knowledge of the organic skincare business, we knew that this was a key feature of our brand that we simply had to include. Because our company is based on scents inspired by nature, it is only fitting that we do everything in our power to protect our environment and great state of Michigan.

We use soy wax in our candles, sourced from soy beans after they are harvested for other purposes. The beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled and rolled into flakes, at this point the oil is extracted and hydrogenated. The finished product is soy wax that goes into our pure soy candles!  It is so much safer and healthier than petroleum-based paraffin wax.

Another great feature is that our products are cruelty free, meaning that none of our products were ever tested on animals. In addition, they are phthalate free! Phthalates are chemicals used to soften plastics and solvents in cosmetic and other consumer products. These can be very damaging to the liver, kidneys, lungs and reproductive system. Again, harmful products to our environment. Clean and sustainable products are a promise guaranteed by Shea Woods Co.
